I hired gabrielle to make baby cakes for my august wedding. She dropped off beautiful samples and my husband and I were both in awe over how adorable they were. You can only imagine my shock when I arrived at my reception to see the mess she delivered. I was so upset and disappointed that I cried. I had hoped that once my guests had seen the cakes, which also made for some of our tables centerpieces as well that they'd fall in love with them like we did. I called and told her of my disappointment and she told me that she was sorry but that she ran out of time! This infuriated me and I told her that she was paid in enough time so therefore she should have had my cakes done properly. She agreed to compensate me for at least some of the five hundred dollars that I had to pay for them, and then she never called me again or answered the telephone when I called her either. Brides and Grooms beware! Don't let this happen to you!

I ordered flowers from wegmans in fayetteville and made my own- people have been commenting for months afterwards how gorgeous they were - they are very nice to work with and if u don't have time to make your own they had some beauitiful ones one display that looked as good as if not better than many in traditional florists shops- i think because they can order in bulk- and order so that flowers arrive short time before they don't stay in a freezer somewhere for very long so they are very nice and fresh

MADE MY OWN

I had funky floral centerpieces made from a local florist shop. Then I went to the Christmas Tree Shop and bought a bunch of bags of these really unique stones that I placed sporadically on the tables. They added color, were asthetically interesting, and everyone was playing with them and holding them and then taking some home with them when they left. A few votives in glass holders too. But the trick is to try to have different sizes of tables, arrangements of flowers, and a differnt number of stones and some stacked or clumped together and others just randomly out. I got two different colors of stones that looked vibrant and bright on a white table cloth. If the tables are not all the same centerpiece and same size table, then they are interesting and nice. Otherwise they are monotonous and people don't pay attention to them if there's not any variety in them, even if it's subtle.

They can be anything you want :) dream big and then try to figure out how to fit your dream/ idea into your budget. If you don't have something in mind, try to think of the kind of wedding you want: modern, traditional, bright etc... Different flowers give different feels. If you plan to work with a florist a good one should be able to help you with this. If you plan to do it yourself, there are online websites where you can buy bulk flowers~ some even offer wedding box packages for the DIY bride.
Often crisp and simple is the way to go. Also, make sure that the centerpieces won't get in the way of guest comfort. (can guests see past the table to talk to each other, or is the centerpiece too large etc...)

As far as fruit~ I've seen lemons, oranges, and limes used often in the bottom of the vase
Fish does seem to be a new thing :) beta fish work well in small bowls (1 per bowl of course), but remember you will have to find a home for the fish after the wedding

Good luck and most of all have fun with it!

I booked "she takes the cake" as well. She does amazing work! However, my centerpieces will be fresh flowers from Whistlestop florist. They will be in the tall skinny vases and I am using creme roses and orchids.
