Reception Ideas?

We have been looking at various reception sites. We want something that is elegant, charming, and has old character. Are there any suggestions.....I live in Madison County and would go into Oneida or Onondaga County....

Hi,

There are so many terrific facilities to choose from, but if you're looking for a place with character and embiance,
you might try the "Greystone Castle" in Canastota, or perhaps the "Kallet Theatre" or "Dibbles Inn" in Oneida.
"Bayshore Grove" in Oswego offers beautiful grounds for outdoor ceremonies and breathtaking lakeside sunset photo opportunities and a wonderful staff as well.

BEST SERVICE WITHOUT A DOUBT- GILFILLAN WEST HILL CATERING CLUB - Sheri

On 10/15 I had my wedding reception at Gilfillan's in West Hill. The entire staff did an EXCEPTIONAL JOB!! I have not heard one complaint from any of the 170 guests we invited. I just keep hearing from our family and friends how wonderful the food and service was. My husband and I still think about how wonderful the cocktail hour was as we had endless enjoyment of all of our passed appetizers. We were afraid we may not enjoy any appetizers since we wanted to hide until our 'grand entrance.' But I am happy to say that I enjoyed the appetizers so much... especially the jumbo shrimp... that I could barely make room for dinner. The best part of the day was that I did not once have to worry about something getting done that day. Everything ran so smoothly from the minute we walked in the door until when we picked up all our individual boxes the next day. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND DAN/MARILYN AND HIS STAFF. Dan can be reached at 315.672.3141. Mention my name, I am sure he will remember me- he personally cares- we felt like family that night- so I am sure he would remember Jeff and myself. THANKS GILFILLAN'S FOR MAKING MY WEDDING RECEPTION SO WONDERFUL AND MEMORABLE.

@ Angela-I have looked into having my September reception at the White eagle as well. May I ask how big your guest list is? I haven't walked through the reception room myself but I have heard if you have a large guest list most of your guests are cut off from the main action around the dance floor? Any opinion on this? It concerns me as I believe I will be having about 150 people. I have on the other hand heard the food is incredible and you can't beat the price. I have also seen photos of the grounds from a summer 2010 wedding and I loved them.

-Other than that I am also having trouble picking a site...my fiance and I are really particular and want something with charm. Our dream would be to hold it outside but being we have to have it in September due to family members not being around during the summer months, we are scared about the weather.
-Anyone been to a wedding at Arena's Eis House Restaurant?? Or know of anything in the Adirondacks that isn't overly priced?

Oneida County

I forgot to mention the I think its called the Oneida County Masion House, also lots of character not very expensive and beautiful. Also try the Shenandoah Club at Turning Stone, but that one might be a bank breaker, not sure but oh so beautiful. Dibbles Inn in Vernon too.

I was checking out the Colgate Inn in Hamilton. This is the cheapest place I have found in all of syracuse and surrounding areas that looks nice, at least online. You can rent out the gazebo across the street for 25 bucks and have reception there. They even reserve a block of rooms for out of town guests and tehy seem very helpful and accomodating.

An even better suggestion!

Another place for you to check out is the Lincklaen House in Caz...it has more charm than you can imagine! It is not a formal layout but if you are looking for a more laid back, but still very elegant place, I would go there. They can accommodate up to 200 people, my fiance and I went there yesterday and they have a beautiful bridal suite as well. The wedding coordinator was very hospitable and seemed extremely flexible..and the best thing was that even with the elegance of the building, it is one of the cheapest venues I have found in all of Madison, Oneida and Onondaga counties combined. I highly recommend you check it out in person.

Finding a Venue
Posted: 8/23/2010

I live in Madison County as well and am having a hard time finding a venue, I seriously have looked at every possible place between Utica and Syracuse. I really liked Hotel Utica but they are currently for sale and looking for a new owner and that makes me nervous as I am planning a summer 2011 wedding. Besides that I think the Beeches is beautiful, it has amazing grounds for pictures and has charm that is hard to find in central New York, and the prices are reasonable. If your big on character I suggest touring their grounds, the website does not do it justice by any means. Another place is in Little Falls, Beardslee Castle, downside is it is in the middle of nowhere pretty much. But the food there is amazing. Good luck!!

I would try Red Mill Inn in Baldwinsville or closer to you is Dibbles Inn. I heard they just renovated the whole place.
