Do I Need a Photographer?

When you are figuring out your budget, you may realize that photography and videography account for about 12% of your overall costs. After seeing this, many Syracuse brides choose to exclude videography and allocate that money to another item on the budget. Excluding photography or videography is not a good idea. Here are the advantages of having a photographer or videographer.

Photographer- A wedding should not take place without a photographer. Even if it's your uncle, cousin, roommate, or someone you met off the street, you need a photographer. What about disposable cameras? This question is very common, but there are many disadvantages to disposable cameras. First of all, they are not as good quality as the pictures a photographer's camera can make. Second of all, the people taking the pictures are not as experienced as a photographer. Third of all, guests do not want to spend time taking formal (posed) pictures of you and your families.

A photographer will be able to think of great poses or locations a lot better than you or your guests could. They are also skilled at making sure a picture looks good- symmetry, all faces visible, nothing cut off, etc. Plus, many photographers will be able to offer you a basic package that may be something like: 2 hours of shooting, 1 11x14, 1 8x10, and 30 pictures in a basic album. This type of package will be sufficient for your wedding photo needs and you will get professional pictures that are professionally developed.

Videographer- Having a video of your wedding is the best way to relive all the wonderful memories of that day. Even though you may think the price of this service is out of your budget, you'll want to read these advantages before making a decision. The main advantage is that you are able to capture both the sight and sound (and essentially, the mood) of the wedding day. Many videographers can do special effects that will play your favorite songs during the video, have family interviews spliced in, etc. You're sure to love the video no matter what.

A videographer can often get some better shots than a photographer can because the camera is always on, so you don't have the wait for a flash, or changing a lens. Also, videographers can catch more of a candid view of your wedding. Since most photography is posed, it doesn't really show the feeling of the day. With videography, you get to see the bride's spontaneous smile, the groom leaning in for a kiss, the flower girl dancing with the ring bearer, and much more. Even if you just hire them for an hour or two, you'll be glad you got some real action from the wedding.

So, cutting to the chase- even though photography and videography can be pricy, both of these have great advantages. Also, most companies have realized that many people are on a tight budget and have set up very basic and inexpensive options that can fit any budget.

Engagement Photos

Engagement pictures, though not a vital part of the wedding, are an important part of a memorable wedding. Many people in Syracuse choose to get engagement pictures for several reasons- here are a few:

Engagement Announcements- This can be either an ad in a newspaper, an announcement sent to friends and family, or an invitation to an engagement party. It is nice to have a picture for these things so that friends and family can see what your fiance looks like (if they haven't met him) and visa versa for his family. Plus, you can show off how extremely happy you two are together.

Wedding Scrapbook- Some brides decide to document the wedding from the engagement to the honeymoon in a scrapbook. It is a very fun idea, and can be used as an activity at the bridal shower (decorating pages). Of course, pictures are a necessity for scrapbooks, so an engagement picture is a must.

Personal Use- If you had a short relationship, or just didn't ever get around to taking pictures together, an engagement photo is a great time to do it. It's nice to be able to have a picture in your wallet to show people when you talk about your fiance and subsequent marriage.

Wedding Invitations- Some couples actually choose to incorporate an engagement picture into their invitations. This is done either by putting a picture in with the invitation (with a layer of tissue paper to protect it), or actually printing the picture on the invitation/ printing the invitation on a picture. Even though it is uncommon, it is easy enough and adds a fun element to your invitations that guests love.

If you are not sure about getting engagement photos, see if your photographer has a wedding package deal that comes with them, or see if the package you chose has engagement pictures available at a cheaper rate. It may just tip the scale enough to finalize your decision to get them or not.
